There is a lot to look forward to on the 2019 slate, and luckily for Longhorns fans, only two of the 12 slated games are outside of a three-hour drive.
Joe Burrow set a career high with 489 yards to go along with five touchdown passes. He passed Rohan Davey's LSU single season passing yards record during the game. Burrow also completed 17 consecutive passes at one point, setting a school record. Ja'Marr Chase had 227 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and was later named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. With five starters back on offense and just two on defense, another turn in the recruiting cycle might be needed before Texas is officially back. This was a good ol' fashion slugfest in Baton Rouge last season with the Tigers coming out on top 19-3.
In the third quarter, LSU's Cade York converted a 50-yard field goal, and then Texas A&M scored their only points of the day with a one-yard run by Isaiah Spiller. Late in the fourth quarter, the Tigers pinned the Aggies at their own 1-yard line with a punt, and then Neil Farrell Jr. sacked James Foster in the endzone for a safety to end the scoring on the day at 50–7. In the preseason, Alabama was ranked No. 2 in both the AP and Coaches Poll, second only to the Clemson Tigers, who had beat Alabama in last season's National Championship game.
Big 12 play kicks off with yet another home game, this time it is the Oklahoma State Cowboys returning to Austin where they last left victoriously in 2017. LSU's non-conference away schedule also includes a trip to Austin to face off against the Texas Longhorns in the second week of the season. Given there is no sports happening, I'm considering watching a game every Saturday just like living the season again.
